About...

Sarah Whyberd has a love for sewing, making and gorgeous fabrics.

From her upbringing in rural Cumbria Sarah has always been surrounded by homemade things whether it's freshly baked cakes, handmade cushions or hand-knitted jumpers.

She has a fascination for old world charm with a modern twist and even whilst studying for her BA (Hons) in Fine Art Sculpture at Kingston University in 1999 her work has always started from stories of Cumbrian childhood or the traditional British countryside.

Sarah's current projects are no different; starting with distinctly British ideas such as 1940's style teddy bears and the wonderfully homely tea-cosy, Sarah has brought the objects up to date by using gorgeous modern fabrics but which still have an essence of home.

Sarah's recent upholstery work has been recognised by the Worshipful Company of Upholders where she received 2nd price for her tartan chair in the Advanced Upholstery course at London Metropoltan University. She is now continuing to develop her Upholstery by collaborating with Gemma Cutts (under Gem&Bird) where they hope to bring together Gemma's embroidered textile designs with Sarah's creative upholstery.
